Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Ashapura Steel’s Duplex stainless steel round bars and rods are a preferred choice in the manufacturing industry due to their unique properties. These bars consist of a mixture of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, making them highly resistant to corrosion and oxidation. In this post, we will discuss the various types of duplex stainless steel round bars available in the market and their applications. Duplex round bars and rods come in different shapes and sizes, including duplex steel bars, duplex steel bright bars, duplex steel hex bars, round bar duplex SS, duplex spring steel bars, duplex square bars, and duplex flat bars.
Each type of round bar has specific properties that make it suitable for particular applications. One of the most popular types of duplex stainless steel round bars is duplex stainless steel S32750.
Types of Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Duplex stainless steel round bars are widely used in various industries due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and durability. However, not all duplex stainless steel round bars are the same. There are different types of duplex stainless steel round bars, each with unique properties and characteristics.
Standard Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Standard duplex stainless steel round bars are composed of equal parts of austenitic and ferritic phases. This balanced microstructure gives them good mechanical properties such as high strength and toughness. Common grades of standard duplex stainless steel round bars include ASTM A276 Type 2205 and ASTM A276 Type 2304.
- ASTM A276 Type 2205: Known for its excellent corrosion resistance and high strength, this grade contains chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen, providing superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
- ASTM A276 Type 2304: A low-alloyed grade with good corrosion resistance in mild environments such as fresh water or atmospheric conditions. It is also cost-effective compared to other grades.
Super Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Super duplex stainless steel round bars contain higher levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen than standard duplex stainless steel round bars, resulting in improved corrosion resistance in harsher environments such as seawater or acidic solutions. Super duplex stainless steel round bars also have higher strength.
- ASTM A276 Type 2507: This popular super duplex grade offers excellent corrosion resistance in aggressive environments such as seawater or chemical processing plants. It also has high strength, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications.
Hyper Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Hyper duplex stainless steel round bars are the newest addition to the duplex family. They contain higher levels of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen than super duplex grades, providing superior corrosion resistance in highly acidic and corrosive environments.
- ASTM A276 Type 2707: This hyper duplex grade has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in harsh environments such as seawater or chemical processing plants. It also has high strength, making it suitable for demanding applications.
Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bars
Corrosion resistance is one of the most important properties of duplex stainless steel round bars. Duplex stainless steels offer a combination of high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, making them ideal for use in harsh environments. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, duplex stainless steels have higher tensile strength and better resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion.
ASTM A276 and ASTM A479 are two commonly used specifications for duplex stainless steel round bars. These specifications cover standard requirements for hot-finished or cold-finished rounds, squares, hexagons, and other shapes of wrought duplex stainless steels. The most common alloy grade is S31803, which has a chemical composition that includes chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and nitrogen.

FAQ
Duplex stainless steel is a type of stainless steel that contains both austenitic and ferritic microstructures.both stainless steel and duplex stainless steel offer corrosion resistance, duplex stainless steel stands out for its enhanced corrosion resistance, strength, and toughness, making it suitable for demanding applications in aggressive environments.
The most commonly used duplex stainless steel in Maharashtra, like in many other parts of the world, is UNS S31803, also known as 2205 duplex stainless steel. This alloy is widely utilized in various industries due to its excellent combination of corrosion resistance, high strength, and good weldability.
A material referred to as “22Cr duplex” typically indicates a type of duplex stainless steel with a chromium (Cr) content of approximately 22%. Duplex stainless steels are characterized by their two-phase microstructure, consisting of both austenite and ferrite phases. The balanced combination of these phases gives duplex stainless steels their desirable properties, including high corrosion resistance and good mechanical strength.
Duplex stainless steel, such as Duplex 2205, is available in a wide range of standard sizes for various products like pipes, tubes, sheets, and bars.
Duplex Pipe and Tubing- common sizes like 1/2″, 3/4″, 1″, 2″, 3″, 4″, 6″, 8″, 10″, and 12″ and sometimes larger.
Duplex Sheet and Plate-Standard sheet sizes may include 1000mm x 2000mm, 1219mm x 2438mm (4ft x 8ft), and larger.
Duplex Round Bars and Rods-Standard lengths for round bars are typically 12 feet (3.66 meters) or 20 feet (6.1 meters), but custom lengths can be ordered.
Duplex Fittings -Duplex fittings, such as elbows, tees, reducers, and flanges, come in various sizes, usually ranging from 1/2″ to 12″ or larger.
